Most senior members here do not run any AV software. If you are paranoid about it, coming maybe from the Windows environment, download ClamXAV which is freeware. If you are going to run Windows via Bootcamp etc., the answer is yes and Microsoft Security Essentials, also freeware, is as good as any.

Do not lash out your hard earned on commercial software which only downloads Windows virus definitions as there are no Mac OS X viruses.

Malware doesn't cross over from one OS to another - if you get malware or a virus in Windows, it won't affect OS X. If you're concerned about the Windows VM, you'll need to look for Windows anti-virus solutions.

Suggestion was:-

1. ClamXAV on Mac OS X partition.

2. Microsoft Secuity Essentials on Bootcamp/Paragon VM or partition.
