My six-year iMac needs a new hard drive, it will cost about $300. Wondering if it's worth the investment or should I invest that in a new one?

Thanks!

If you can replace the hard drive yourself...you can save yourself a LOT of money. A replacement HD would cost about $50-$75.

A replacement procedure can be found at:

iFixit: The free repair manual

There really is no need to spend a whole bunch of money on a new computer...if the old one is working fine (except for the HD)...and meets all your needs. but if you have to spend $300 to replace the HD...that's probably more than 50% of the value of the computer.

HTH,

Moved thread to more appropriate sub-forum...not an OS X operating system topic.
