lion all locked up

I got a new imac about a month ago. lion was pre installed.
now every doc or file og=f any kind is locked. the message i get is
i have not opened the file for a long time so it is now locked. very easy to unlock,
sure, but annoying to get this message. what i have done so far is clicked the
folder where the file is, get info, opened the lock. this does not change anything.
note that i can open anything easily. i just can't do anything till i unlock it.

That's the default behavior in Lion. You can't change it. When it states a file is locked and do you want to unlock it, reply yes and it should unlock. Also, it should only do that with certain applications. For example: It will lock Textedit files and iWork files but not MS Office files.
