HELP!!! Finder is going CRAZY!!!

Our 1.8 G5 at work is going crazy! The Finder continually relaunches despite my best efforts: Repair permissions, zapping the PRAM, firmware/security updates. Started last night apparently. Any thoughts at all are needed. Has anyone had this happen where the finder seems to be on some kind of loop and clicking on anything reloads it?

Now the G5 is locking up on me on restart - looks like the relaunch screen and Force Quit is unresponsive. Is there anything I can try besides Archive and ReInstall the OS? Help! :(

Update: system SEEMS to be working now - relaunched one time after startup from the hardware test (which it passed) and did a rebuild/cleanup of the desktop. There were alot of photos it was loading thumbnails for on the desktop, which could have been the culprit.
