Transfering iphone apps to ipad

Sorry if this seems a silly question.
I am planning to buy the new ipad. When I connect it to itunes will it automatically download my iphone apps onto its self, or are ipad apps totally different to iphone.

Most iPhone apps will run on the iPad, but may appear "half-size" until you turn on the little "2x" button at th e bottom right corner. Many iPhone apps will just work as native iPad apps when they are on the iPad.

Bottom line: when you connect your new iPad to iTunes you'll have the opportunity to select which apps get copied to the new iPad. All of them will be available for that process, no re-buying or re-downloading necessary (though as a backup you could also just re-download them from the App Store if you're signed in using the same account).
