Microsoft Office Entourage HELP!

I have a gmail account that I've synced with Entourage for years. Recently (several times now) my Entourage has crashed, requiring me to rebuild to database each time. I've finally had it and want to get rid of Entourage and delete everything associated with (including the 'user identity' where all of my messages are stored) and start using Mac Mail.

Here's my question- how can i be sure that when i delete all of my entourage stuff that it won't also delete everything on my gmail account? what settings do i have to use to make sure that that doesn't happen?
