Which model iMac do you have? - That will help us tell you how much RAM you can add.

Click on the Apple Logo in the top left and then click "About this Mac".

That's your OS. :)

It should say something like 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo or something?

How old is your Mac? If I was at my Mac I'd be able to guide you right to the model number, but I'm not ATM so this is all I can suggest...

Once we've worked out how old, and what kind of processor you have (Be it Intel or G5), that should give us an idea of which one you've got. Also, do you have a white iMac, or is it one with an aluminium body?

Brilliant, that's exactly the info I was after! Thanks!

Right, your Mac can take upto 6GB RAM, through a 2GB and 4GB configuration.

Apple iMac Memory upgrades for Aluminum 20" and 24" models with Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz, 2.66GHz, 2.8GHz, or 3.06GHz processor

If you have a look a the link, it lists all your options and how much it'll cost you. If you want the full 6, I'd suggest buying 6GB so that you aren't mixing memory manufacturers. Just to void any possible conflicts.

I would say check out www.crucial.com, but their site is down for maintainence at the moment. You could check back there later, they have a memory checker on there, whereby you pop your details in and it will suggest the RAM for you. Prices will be similar I reckon.

Both websites have video tutorials showing how to install it, it's a fairly simple process!

Good luck, and if you have any questions, just ask! :)

Just for the record, Snow Leopard runs fine in 2GB of RAM, though of course more RAM is always better so I second the recommendation to upgrade your RAM.
