External Drive

I need to remove some of the photos off of my MBP and put it onto a external drive. I am not looking to use it for a back up but strictly for storage. I just bought a Seagate 1.5T GoFlex Desk. I just read on the back it says it is for back up, can I just use it for storage? Sorry, new to all of this.

Sure. It can be used for backing up and/or to store files, photos, music, whatever. A word of caution about storing photos on an external hard drive:

Make sure you have another copy of your photos stored elsewhere. Many folks have lost valuable family photos (wedding, baby, etc) because they were stored on an external hard drive and the drive failed. Redundancy is always best.

When it comes to valuable photos and other irreplaceable personal stuff, yes, you need to backup the backup.

I have my personal stuff and photos backed up to DVDs in addition to two external hard drives.
