PC printer driver update crashed my Mac

Finding the mac-forum site in google search I clicked the first possible link offering driver update and at the same moment I realized it was a PC driver update. Could not stop downloading it and in about half a min it crashed my Macbook Pro. ( all this because upgrading for OS X Lion - due to iCloud- did not work with my Canon printer anymore ) I did software update before which did not help that is why I followed suggestions and decided on driver update. Accidentally I overlooked that it was not for Mac but was too late!!! Now my comp does not even turn on anymore. What can I do now?

What do you mean your computer won't turn on anymore? And I fail to understand how a PC printer update would even install much less cause your computer to crash?

How about telling us which Mac you have and what Canon printer you're trying to update?

I highly doubt that downloading an executable would crash your computer. An *.exe file wouldn't even do anything on your Mac OS. So the download and crash should be unrelated. Something else is wrong.

Any sort of noise when you turn it on? (might be a stupid question, so sorry ahead of time, but: ) Is it plugged into the charger or could the battery be empty?

This is a 4 y old MacbookPro and it worked perfectly with the Canon Pixma iP4300 photo printer. After the OSX Lion update I could print with my other Wifi HP printer without any problem. (not to mention that the Office 2004 was not Ok either but after upgrading for 2011 version that was fine) Now, when I tried to print with Canon was not printing, "pending" status for long. So deleted that and restarted again and same thing: no photo printing. Than searching for solution....as you could see the result before. Download started and it took half a min, than a noise and went black. Everything was plugged in, yes. For the first attempt to turn back it tried for a few second than same noise and went black again, later did not even turn on. I guess you are right something is coincidental rather than related. Maybe the unsuccessful printing job ( though deleted the queue after a while) filled up the disc? Thanks for trying to help me solving the mystery!!!

Well, thanks for your suggestions, it did the trick Though I have to tell you that the coincidental factor was that the charger appeared to be unstable - I switched for a new one and after app 15 min computer is back. Funny, that no sign indicated that battery is running low before the incident happened. Now the Q: shall I try with the apple recommended driver update or better take it to the next specialist? Thanks for the relief you gave me!

No worries! My older MBP has the same issue, that it just turns off anywhere below 20% without any message. That's why suspected something like that

I've actually helped to install a similar printer on a friends machine. They tried to use the Bonjour which had the same "pending" result. We went to the Canon website, downloaded the driver and added the printer by IP rather than Bonjour, using the downloaded driver. This worked flawless.
