Localhost help...

Where are you "writing" $hostname? And what is it too long for? Not sure if I understand this right.

The first thing I can see in your URL is that you could change your port from 8888 to the standard port 80. That way it doesn't have to be typed into the URL anymore.

MAMP defaults to that name that describes port location and my language. A friend of mine went into Terminal once an renamed it. I would just like not to type the whole address because I am lazy. So lazy, in fact, that I'm willing to spend hours finding out how to do this.

Hum.. I'm using XAMPP (apache friends - xampp) which just defaults to port 80 so it's just "http://localhost" when going to my local site.

What happens if you change the port and go to localhost in your browser? I wouldn't think you always have to add the language...
