Will OS 10.5 or 10.6 install and run on a IMac G5, Power Mac (8,2), PowerPC G5 (3.1), 1 CPU, Speed 2 GHz, L2 Cache 512kb, 1.5G memory, Bus Speed 667 MHz?

If so, which OS package or upgrade should I buy to install?

Thanks for any info and advice!

10.5 is not available from any retail source and you need the "retail" version, which is black, not grey or silver. To get such a disc, you have to resort to resellers online. You could drop $100 US easily, or more.

That is about what I paid for my version but be patient and if looking on e-bay subscribe to it for OS X 10.5.

Because after I purchased mine about 2-3 weeks later I saw it for less than half of what I paid which was $90.

As mentioned from previous post they can only be the black disks as the gray or silver are machine specific and will not work, so do not waste your money on these.

Several years back almost any disks would work with just about any machine but not so now.

Several years back? How many years ago are you talking about? The disk or disk set that came with a purchased Mac was always specific for that particular Mac unless a retail version was obtained.

At least back to OS 7.0 in 1993.

@OP in addition to making sure you have a retail version of 10.5 make sure you get a Universal version. If I remember correctly some discs for that OS were Intel only.

OP posted over a year ago, and hasn't posted a second time.
