Problem with Microsoft word 2011! Help please!

I'm not sure if this is in the correct section, I'm sorry if it isn't but here it goes. I am trying to do an assignment for college on my 21.5 inch iMac. I have downloaded a word document from my college's website and when I open it, it crashes Microsoft word. I then need to force quit Word and it will then stop working completely until I restart my iMac. Any other word document opens fine so it's just this particular word document that is causing the problem and just quite simply "breaks it". If anyone else has had this problem before or someone knows how to fix it, it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Could be a font problem. Can you open it up in something else, like Text Edit, pages or Libre Office, change the font and re-save the file
