iPod touch frozen!

I just plugged my 1st Gen ipod touch to sync and it has frozen on a black screen with the red arrown/slide to power off icon at the top and the cancel on the bottom.
Any suggestions out there?

Confuzzled...

Hold the lock button as well as the home button at the same time until the iPod screen goes black. Then release the homebutton and wait for the apple to show up before you let go of the lock button.
