The Big Cat theme for Apple OS X releases seems to be running out of steam. It has been a while since I did a Poll and I have been up since 2:00 am (couldn't sleep) so I decided to pose the question:

What Next?

Sexually Transmitted Diseases?

OS XI Gonorrhea is where I'm hedging my bets.

;-)

So you're voting Other?

EDIT: I think your option is more suitable for future Windows releases BTW ;)

Sorry, the actual poll wasn't up there when I posted, but yes, other it is.

Actually, now I've actually seen the options, I like the astronomical idea. Forget the STD's.

Interesting . . . apparently if you do a Poll the thread posts even though you are still working on the Poll questions.

I'm at a dead tie, and since I can't vote for two, I'll vote for neither:) The cat naming is getting old, and should be dropped imo. Naming constellations could also be cool...SO many sweet names out there, and who knows how many new ones are still to come!

I always thought the Greek and Roman gods had some pretty awesome names. Whatever they decide on (should they ever change their naming scheme), they should contact Microsoft for advice since they have the best code names (see here for a list). There's something very cool about Avalon, Denali and Cassini.

I'm not sure that Apple can effectively use the constellation idea, as I think that Microsoft already has reservations on "Cancer".

Oh, and FWIW, I think the cat thing ran out of steam with Snow Leopard. Just seemed like a re-run to me. I honestly don't have any better ideas, though. <embarrassed>

Stay with the cat names until OS X is done. We can only go to 10.9 anyway right?

I think this is the feasible route if a total name-changing scheme is to occur...assuming they don't milk OS10.

I think they should stick with the "big cats" theme until OS XX than change it to something else for another 10 releases and so on (many Mac OS Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx[878 more x's] should be called Mac OS HAL
