I have a brand new (2 months old) mac pro 13

2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
Running OS X Lion 10.7.3

Pretty sweet specs, and yet it's sluggish. From Internet to running everyday programs.
Any advice?

That's not much to go on. What kinds of apps are you running? What do you have running at startup or in the background (that you know of)? How much of that 8GB of memory is being used (you can use Activity Monitor to find this)?

Ok, let's see

I have just over 4gb free according to Activity Monitor
I'm running Sparrow, Dropbox, Exel, Google Chrome, obviously Finder, Caffein, Insomnia and I think that's it.

As I already suggested:)...reboot the computer...and possibly "Repair Permissions" (launch Disk Utility).

I use Google Chrome extensively and find that, depending on the number of open tabs, can cause slowdowns. I have experienced it several times while having a number of different programs running. I have checked the amount of RAM and find no problems. While I never shut down my computer, I do restart Chrome every day. I have not had the sluggishness since doing this. You may want to give this a whirl.

I have rebooted 3 times already, which is why I didn't respond initially.
I am unsure of using Disk Utility.

Ok sounds good. But you have to tell us what you've done...so we know (we're not mind-readers);)...so we don't keep suggesting the same thing over & over.;)

I am unsure of using Disk Utility.

Just do it...it's not a problem:

- launch Disk Utility
- click on the "Repair Permissions" button

Oh man, is 2 hours to "repair permissions" normal?

Normally it shouldn't take two hours...it usually only takes a 5 minutes or less for me. If it's been a long time...maybe 10-15 minutes. But you may use your computer differently than me...so who knows.

The repair permissions process may also depend on how big the hard drive is. I have a 160gig HD...if yours is larger...than that may somewhat explain the longer repair permissions time.

As Harry may be suggesting...there may be some hard drive issues...thus you may want to head back to Apple to have them check it out. But even if the "Repair Permissions" says it will take 2 hours...I would give it a shot first before visiting Apple.
