Mac Beeps During Regular Operation

So I have an earlier model Macbook (1,1) running OS X 10.5. I have read through many forums which detail motherboard/bios beeps that sound at startup and how to diagnose them, however I have yet to find information on my problem.

I can't seem to find a correlation to the beeps, but they are NOT occurring at startup, rather they are happening during regular operation (searching web, typing papers, @ idle and playing music, etc).

I'm certain the beeps are resonating from the main speakers (as opposed to motherboard speakers) because I can mute the beeps by muting the sound.

They come in a series of 8 beeps, which are "paired" in 4 sets. That is, the beeps occur like this: beep-beep, beep-beep, beep-beep, beep-beep. Again, their frequency is not specific, nor is the correlation of when they present apparent.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

jtb
