Refresh Rate of MacBook Pro in Snow Leopard

Hi,

I suffer from flicker sensitivity, and cannot use my late 2009 MacBook Pro very much because of it. Rather than purchase another computer, I was wondering if there was ANY way to increase the refresh rate above 60 hz. I am using Snow Leopard and no option appears in Display for adjusting the refresh rate. Any ideas?

(For clarification, the condition is called "subliminal" flicker sensitivity. Nothing is wrong with the MacBook. A google search on subliminal flicker sensitivity will lead to websites that explain the condition far better than I can.)

Most LCD displays are designed to run at 60Hz. The technology simply can't display at a higher refresh than that, so it's not just a matter of tweaking a setting.

With that said, we're starting to see a rash of 120Hz LCDs come on the market, especially in TVs. But this is a fairly new development. If you're sensitive to refresh rates, you might want to shop for a notebook that is advertised as having a higher refresh than normal as it can't be set in software.

I figured as much. Oh well, guess I'll be selling this mbp then. Thanks for the timely response cwa.

Before you do that, you might want to have a model in mind. As I mentioned, I've seen 120Hz displays, but they're mostly TVs. So, be sure to shop around before you make any commitments.
