time machine restored

Hi - first time ever posted so new to this? have a imac 27'-2.66 ghz 4core
hard disk went over xmas-had new one fitted and have used timemachine to restore backup but now not booting up? ideas anyone- boots up on system disk after a long time and the HD is showing up *** OK
help

Have you used the system disks to install OSX on the new drive.

Once the base OS is installed from the system disks then the mac should reboot and then ask for a backup to restore all your stuff bac

yep have installed system and booted from disc then did a restore from backup. now wont reboot- just have grey screen with apple and spinning wheel.

Um, if your hard drive was wonky there's a chance you backed up wonky files.

I would use Migration Assistant instead. You don't need to move any system stuff over since it's already installed from your disks, all you need is your user info and applications.
