PowerMac G4 boot problems

Hi,

Just upgraded a PowerMac G4 Dual 450Mhz machine to OS X 10.4 (from OS 9). The hard drive was originally partitioned in 2, but has since been totally wiped and is just a single volume now. Unfortunately when rebooting or starting up the machine, it goes straight into the OpenFirmware and I have to type in mac-boot - it then loads up OS X fine.

I've tried;

/dev options .properties in OpenFirmware and setting the auto-boot? to true.

reset-nvram
reset-defaults
reset-all to clear the nvram.

I've opened it up and reset the nvram that way.

I'm totally out of idea's and dont have a clue what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Something to perhaps note is that the machine never switches itself off, everything powers down but the light stays on at the front. The power for a monitor is being daisy chained from the PSU.

boot issue

hey

I have a very similar problem, except my g4 quicksilver gets to the firmwear screen and I cannot do anything. I have pressed the motherboard reset switch and also replaced the Pram battery.

any advice would be great.
