Hi there,
I am running Snow Leopard on my imac. I downloaded a torrent for an avi file. The torrent file is crashing my system. If I even go into the downloads folder it starts to hang. If I click on the file and try to drag it to the trash it won't go. Even right clicking won't work. I can use my computer otherwise, however it seems to be lagging. I have tried repairing disk permissions, zapping the pram, resetting the system manager and running apple jack. Nothing has helped. I'm guessing it's a corrupt file of some sort. Any ideas as to how to get rid of this file. I'm backing up my stuff just incase I need to do a reinstall.

Thanks:(

One of the hazards of using torrents to download. Whether the AVI file was a legal download or not, you risk malware and file corruption by using torrents. Although there are legal torrent downloads (Linux live CDs are an example) there are too many risks involved.

What you can try is use Root access (log on as Root) and remove the file that way. See this Apple KB article to learn how to log on as Root. LINK
