I'm looking to charge multiple devices like an iPad, iPhone, and iPod at the same time. I've checked out online sites and found the best option is the Aviiq charging station, which is about $80. However, couldn't I just get a USB hub? Do they charge with the same power?

While that is a very neat solution, and one that I know a few people would buy!, A USB hub will do the same job, yes, provided you are leaving the main computer that you are connecting to switched on.
I can't say if they charge with the same power but it will charge as normal.

Stupid question: does a USB port work without a computer? Could I just use it to charge devices?

If you get a Powered USB hub, you can charge multiple devices even when the computer is not on or hooked up.

Even if you have a computer hooked up to a non-powered USB hub, you would be lucky to get 1 device to charge.

So is that charging station the best option for simultaneously charging three or four products?

Keep in mind that the iPads require more power than the rest of the iOS devices (iphone, ipods...)

Not really, you can buy a 7 port powered hub for less than £20 these days.

Is there something I should know about a 7 port powered hub that can run without a computer to power it? Or are most ports able to plug in and then charge items?

If this is really the answer, I'm surprised that people would buy the charging station I mentioned!

You might be interested in something like this. They also have a model that does 4 iPhones and or iPods, but not the iPad.
