My MacBook Pro (17") is 5 years old. It has had various drive upgrades etc. Recently the screen resolution has messed up. Most, but not all of the time, I would describe that it has low resolution, as though a percentage of the pixels are gone. I have tried settings, rebooting, etc. The affect on images is more distorted than with text, as lower res text can still be read, but the color distortion is significant. Again, very occasionally the images are okay (possibly still slightly lower resolution, but okay). Has anyone encounteredt this before? My sinking feeling is that it is a serious hardware issue :(

It sounds like it may be graphics related. See if your MBP falls in this category for a free Apple repair: LINK
