How do I set up my MacBook Pro to show just the screen I want it to on an exterior video monitor ? (e.g in the case of Logic Pro, displaying just the movie screen on another monitor)
At present it mirrors the display I have on the laptop

If I am understanding what you want to do correctly it is easy. With the second monitor connected go to System Preferences and open the "Displays" pane. Click the "Arrangement" tab and uncheck the "Mirror Displays" box.

Now you can drag a program window onto whatever screen you like. The next time that program is opened the window appears where you left it.
