By far the easier way is to slide the slider bar to the off position thus muting the phone and all it's sound effects.
The other way I knew was to use an app to navigate the system folders on your phone and slightly alter the filename of a file called photoShutter.caf in /System/Library/Audio/UISounds. The app was called MobileFinder and as far as I can see no longer exists.
To be honest changing system files is not something that I would want to do in case I bodged it
