How much more powerful is the Mac Mini 2009 than my 2003 PowerMac G4? Will this be a huge upgrade for me?

To simply put it, yes.

The 2009 Mac Mini (depending on the processor) got an average Benchmark score in the mid 3000's. Your MDD gets an average benchmark score of 705.

Therefore, expect the Mac Mini to be about 4x as fast as your G4.

Thanks. I am now thinking of going with a 2009 iMac used. What should I look for? I would like to stay around $400 on ebay.

What do you mean..."What should you look for?"...look for a used 2009 iMac for around $400!;)

There's not much else to say. You have to look to see what's currently available on e-Bay for around $400 (I'm thinking good luck...$400 isn't much)...and if you do find something...then get the computer with the best specs.

If you were purchasing a computer via Craig's List (where you get to touch, see, and play with the computer before buying)...then the "What should I look for question."...would have more answers.;)

Good luck,:)

p.s. If you find a 2009 iMac on e-Bay with a $400 budget...I may have to get one as well!;);)

Really? Dang. I was just basing my assumptions of a few competed auctions.

But now that I am looking I see most go for double that. Dang these two got lucky.

Yeah...there are always some auctions where things sell REALLY high & REALLY low...but for the most part...I think that $400 for a 2009 iMac would be a VERY good price. Heck...there are older model iMac's that sell for more than $400.

The two auctions you found prove that it is possible to find a 2009 iMac for around $400...now you just have to be VERY patient & lucky!;)

p.s. When checking e-Bay auctions...you have to pay VERY close attention to the details. The first auction that you linked (that sold for $365)...the auction description says that it "may not" have a hard drive. Thus that's going to cost extra $$$ to purchase & install.

I typically see $400 iMacs are the late '06 or mid '07 machines. If that, sometimes people will ask $400 for the old Core Duo's.

You can get a much higher spec MacBook or Mac Mini for that budget. The pickings would be slim for an iMac.
