I am fairly new to the mac and love it. I have my family set up on it each with a user name. I can;t access their files apart from the public folder and in that is drop box folder. I just wonder why it is called drop box and what it is their for. I have dropbox the internet file sharing system installed on my user name but the dropbox in each users public folder is confusing me. Can you help inform me exactly what this is?

The Drop Box is exactly what its named for: a place for you to "drop" folders/files in so that the recipient knows this is something from someone else, not something they happened to place in their public folder. Think along the lines of "in box" and "out box."

Dropbox (the third-party sharing service) has nothing to do with the built-in "drop box."
