Connecting a late 2011 MacBook Pro to a non-apple monitor

Hey I'm looking to connect my MacBook Pro to a monitor. I'm not very well versed on this stuff so I wanted to see if anyone else had any luck with a certain brand of monitor and how much I'm going to have to spend on the cables to make it work.

most monitors come with DVI cables, so you will need a DVI adaptor only. Which adaptor depends on the model and year of the macbook

Oh awesome, so which brand of monitor doesn't really matter? and I'll probably just head over to the apple store after I pick it up to get whatever adaptor I need... assuming they have it.

Bear in mind that some monitors come with VGA, VGA and DVI and even some include HDMI inputs, so check when you find a screen you like
