DVD /CD issues

i am having an issue with my CD drive on my imac 9,1. after a year of working fine, the CD player ejects CD/DVD and will not play them. in my preferences, the option of what to do when i insert a CD says ignore and will not allow me to change it. i can put in a DVD 4-5 times and then sometimes it will open up the DVD player. i also cannot burn playlists from itunes . anyone have any ida of what is wrong? thanks...

It sounds like your optical drive may be failing. You can try cleaning it with a can of compressed air by blowing several shorts bursts into the drive. If that doesn't work, the drive may have to be replaced.
