I have deleted files that I need to keep using the 7 pass secure erase utility is it possible to retrieve them using a MacOS utility or other software or are they toast?

Toast. Highly unlikely that you will be able to recover them, even with expensive software.

It's worth calling and asking a professional data-recovery company like DriveSavers, but even if they say "maybe" (which is the best you'll get out of them) rather than "hahahahNO" it will cost you a couple grand to get that stuff back.

So basically the answer is no. Sorry.

The whole point of the 7-pass secure delete option is to make sure that absolutely no data is recoverable. So, the likelihood that anyone can recover that data is next to nothing.
