I recently had a local computer repair place install a new Ethernet card on a Power Mac G4 and need to troubleshoot the install. The company claims they tested the card and made sure everything was working before it was picked up, but it's not working right now. I've read through the manuals for the G4 and the Presto Ethernet card, but they are relatively vague about the whole install process.

Here's what I know so far ...

I have a live CAT5 cable (tested on my laptop).
When it's plugged in to the PowerMac main ethernet port (where the new card is installed), no lights light up on the Presto card.
In System Preferences > Network, "Built-in Ethernet" shows as "Not connected"

I'm not very familiar with Mac hardware installs, so I'm not sure what kind of troubleshooting steps I can take to try to find the cause of the problem. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Mac Specs:
1.25 GHz PowerPC G4
OS X (v 10.5.2)
1 MB L3 cache
768 MB DDR SDRAM

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Sonnet gear is usually pretty reliable. Take it back to the repairer and tell them it has never worked. Unless this was a Mac repairer, most PC shops know very little, or nothing, about Macs. Looking at the specs this is a PCI-E card for a Mac Pro or a late 2005 G5. Maybe they are not aware of this not being Mac specialists:-
