iphoto on mac book pro? new mac user

Hi gang,

My wife and I are new mac converts. 2 iPads, 2 mac book pros, apple tv etc. etc.

I just starting syncing my iPhone to my mac book pro. How do I manipulate all the photos? do I need iPhoto? Someone told me that iPhoto came with mac book pro but I don't have it on this mac. Do i need to purchase it?

When I see a photo on my mac now, I can not delete it. I tried dragging it and pressing the delete button. No go.

If you bought your MBP's new it came with iPhoto part of the iLife suite.
How are you viewing your photos now ?
Pictures is different from iPhoto.
