I just bought another La Cie 250g drive. I am transferring 160g from one drive to another. It said that it will take 4 hours. I started the process and so far I am 3 hrs into the transfer and it has 30 gigs to go. Is this normal? One drive is formatted MS Dos the other Mac Extended Journaled.

The time estimate is not accurate when it first shows up. You probably started the transfer and left the room as soon as the windows popped up. Correct me if I'm wrong. While you were out of the room the time estimate got more accurate, probably went up to 5 hours. If this is the case then it is perfectly normal, if not then i don't know what's going on.

You also don't state what the drive interface is. Firewire, USB or USB 2?

They are both fire wire. It took over 5 hrs to complete. La Cie stated 400 mb per second. I guess my math is wrong. I thought it was 66 minutes.
