Im new to mac, and I borrowed my friends computer with osx 10.4 on it. Im trying to format a flash drive through Disk Utility but I cant find it... I searched it in tha applications and spotlight and it aint there. I also tried to install onyX on this computer but somehow its not working(it mounts and when i click it gives me a window wih either pkg or uninstall options)

Wha do i do? Can i download DU or find a free alternative..?

I did. there's only Contents folder. Couldnt find DU anywhere in there

There can be more than one Applications Folder, need to be sure you are looking in the correct one.
There will be a top level Applications Folder, but may also be an Application Folder within each User's Home Folder

It shouldn't be in Users.

The top level Applications Folder normally shares the same level as Users.

EDIT: Try typing Disk Utility in the Spotlight window of Finder

The only free disk utility that I know who can do the job is gparted
Among others it can create HFS and HFS+ disk or partition .
If you wish to create it for the mac go fore HFS+ file system
Download it as the live version and 32 bit version .
Burn it as a iso 9660 file on a CD .
Restart you mac holding down the option key and boot from gparted
Hope it works .
Or if have a standard PC create the Cd on the Pc and do the formate of the USB stck on the pc too

Of course windows can not do it .
But gparted can ,
What I mean after burning gparted as a iso 9660 file it is bootable .
Put it in cd drive of you're windows machine and the flash drive in USB connection .
Restart you're windows and boot up from the gparted CD
And use gparted to format the usb stick .
But be very sure that you are formatting the USB stick and Not you're C: drive
The first option gparted gives is the C : drive
You have to change it in the USB stick
But still it is strange that MAC diskutility is not there .

No but it can be done with the upgrade disk. (assuming it's a full install and not an upgrade only disk)
