I just want to edit a couple of photographs of one member of my family. Being unemployed for the last couple of years, I can't afford to buy anything. Is there a decent, fairly easy-to-use photoshop-ish program available for the Mac? I just want to change some imperfections on the face of a family member so they won't be embarrassed by the picture and I can share it with the family members. Thank you very much in advance.

I used this years ago to create custom models for Warcraft 3 and Im pretty sure it should have everything you need to touch up a photo.

Thank you very much. I've downloaded it and the User Manual. Quick question: I put the Gimp.app in my Applications folder but the little white box with the black "X" is still on my dock. Should I leave it there? Thanks again for your help.

If the program you have is not working, GraphicConverter is pretty cheap. Lemke Software.

The white box with the black X is X11 which The Gimp requires to work in OS X. If The Gimp is closed, you can close X11. X11 only needs to be open when The Gimp (or any other X11) application is running and it will open when it's needed. Unfortunately, it doesn't close when nothing needs it.

If you want something that is Mac-native and doesn't have to run under X11, then try Seashore. It's actually based on the Gimp, and while not as full-featured as the full-blown Gimp is, it may be adequate for your needs. It's free too.

I would have recommended Seashore but last time I used it, it hadn't been updated since 2007. I just checked now and it seems that it was updated in 2010 but not since then. That's quite the sporadic development pattern.

I might have to give it another try.

Yah, I was actually a bit surprised when I got an update. Apparently they just don't have much in the way of developer support. Still... it's adequate for simpler needs.
