I have an older iMac running 10.4 (manufacture date 2005)
The other day I tried to take it out of sleep mode but froze up (i waited 15 min!) on the desktop view. It wouldn't turn off via the power button so I unplugged it. Tried turning on the computer but I got a tiny icon of a folder flashing between the Mac logo and a question mark. Looked up the issue in. The manual and it said to boot it while holding "option" Tried that and where there supposedly should have been an icon of the hard drive was a circular reload icon. That ran for a good 15 min before I tried a couple more times and ultimately gave up.
So my questions:
What may have caused that? Is there any way to save what's stored on the hard drive? I was thinking of installing the OS on an external drive and booting it via that then trying to access the built-in hard drive. Is that even possible?
Thanks for reading my kinda long winded explanation and questions....
