Nooooo.

Lynx
Serval
Pallas Cat (I can't see that being used!)
Cougar
Caracal
Ocelot

I reckon Lynx is a good bet.

I think that the next version of the OS on Mac's will be called iOS 6.
Why would a company want to develop and support 2 separate OS' s ?

Now that would be a very " mean " OS.
Even when it gets bitten by a highly venomous snake ( let's call it NIMDA -_- ) , it will drop dead, miraculously wake up, shake the dust of and move on like nothing happened.

I like that.

They are not really 2 OS's, unlike Windows which has an NT based desktop OS and a Windows ME based mobile OS

The Kernel and much of the code is identical in iOS and OSX, so Apple are developing one kernel and simply making a desktop and mobile OS on top of s shared foundation

Correct, and that is what I mean.
The kernel is the same ( no maintenance ) so all the effort is in the layers above the kernel.
So to provide your customers with the same experience, why would you want to do the same thing twice, just because of user interface ( input ) being slightly different across devices.

Don't know ... time will tell.... but that's what I would do.

I don't know this for sure but I'm sure the the underlying OS (including the kernel) are quite different. Yes, iOS was based on OS X but the hardware constraints of iOS devices couldn't possibly support the OS X Mach kernel. This is why I'm sure that, despite sharing many similarities, the two OSes have diverged considerably since the start of iOS development. But, what do I know - I'm no Apple developer. ;)
