MacBook Pro 17" a1229 2007 - Lion - Keyboard Back Light LEDs- Some light others don't

Looked and Looked.

But no other post with this exact issue.

I don't know if the LEDs were ever working before
as I've just received this exact MBPro with lion alread installed.

Some of the keys are lighted but others are not.

Dim and Bright keys work propertly for the LEDs that are lit.


Already tried:
smc and pram reset - no change
Lab Tick ---- again works on leds that are lit.

Can't seem to locate physical repair instructions either.

Any positive constructive assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the LEDs are either burned out or it's a circuit problem. It looks like the not working LEDs are grouped together so it could well be a circuit problem.

I hate to tell you this but it may have undergone a liquid spill on the keyboard. Perhaps ifixit might have some good trouble shooting tips but it may mean replacing the entire keyboard and LED assembly.

I got this very cheap.

Anyone know if all 17" keyboards fit the same as a a1229 model?
