I have a 13" 2010 2.4ghz Macbook Pro. When it is on battery, the type lags behind, the mouse is a little jumpy, and internet and applications are noticeably slower. When it is plugged in, it is at least a hundred times faster and operates very smooth and fast. I have already messed around with the sliders in the Energy Saver preferences. What is the problem?

That can happen due to a defective power cord because they give out a certain voltage to your macbook pro. It could not be giving your MBP not enough power so that is whats happening. Try plugging it into a different outlet and if that dosnt work buy a new power cord and that should solve your problem.

Why is that? My Mac says it has 100% battery. My mac isn't lagging behind when it is plugged in, but when it is running solely on battery power.

Does your battery have a lot of cycles on it? If so then soemtimes the mac will underclock the processor when the battery is in poor health to preserve battery life.

Have you tried resetting the "SMC"?:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

If this doesn't fix things...you could also try resetting the PRAM:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM

And also try "repairing permissions":
Repairing Permissions - Mac Guides

I reset everything Pigoo3 instructed, but still no luck.
I am not sure though if I reset the SMC properly, because the light did not change color.

I took screenshots of the mac while plugged in and while running solely on battery.

Notice the numbers for Idle and System.

Thanks for all your help so far!

Any chance you still have Applecare remaining on this computer?

No, unfortunately not. I will take it to the genius bar anyways though.

It's possible that you have a defective battery...and on the 2010 MacBook Pro's (if I remember correctly)...have the non-user replaceable battery.

With a newer MacBook Pro like this...with low battery cycle count...you really shouldn't be having this problem. I would definitely go to the Apple Store & have them check it out...and if you're lucky...they may replace the battery for free (assuming the battery is the problem)...even without Applecare. since this sort of thing really shouldn't be happening.

If you go to the Apple Store...please let us know how things turn out.:)

Thanks,

- Nick

p.s. When you go to the Apple Store...be nice:)...they're more likely to "do you a favor" if you're nice.:) Just mentioning this...since some folks go to the Apple Store roaring & growling like a bear...making all sorts of demands...and that many times doesn't work.
