Hi,

I am a Mac virgin and thinking about buying a Mac Mini. I already have an LG FLATRON W266 HD monitor with 1920 x 1080 resolution. I am currently using this as a monitor for my PC. Is it possible to use this monitor (using HDMI port) with Mac mini or do I need to buy mini display port to VGA adapter? If later is the case, does this affect the quality of display compared to using apple the apple display?

Thanks

Way... way too many specs to list.
Do the current mini's have HDMI ports? I don't recall, even if they don't you'd just need a mdp > HDMI adapter.

If your LG monitor has an HDMI port...then a mini-displayport to VGA will not do you much good (unless the LG monitor also has a VGA port). If you monitor has both...HDMI would be better.

If you want to continue to use your LG's HDMI port...then you would need a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter:

Mini DisplayPort to HDMI

Thank you

Thank you Nick and Mike.

Just to confirm my understanding, If I buy a mini display port to HDMi Adapter (the one in your link goes to Thunderbolt port in the mini) and then use HDMi cable to connect the adapter to the monitor, it should work as a normal monitor?

Thank you

If you get/have the latest Mac Mini you don't need an adapter, as it has an HDMI port on the back (see my previous post for link).

EDIT: Again, my fingers were too slow in typing. ;)

Hey...just to be sure...are you talking about purchasing a new, refurbished, or used Mac-mini?

I just attached my new 2011 Mac mini to a Sony 32" TV via HDMI cable. It worked without a single hitch. Just order the HDMI cable from Apple when you order your mini and you will be good to go. It's only $19 and is about 6 feet long.
