iMac and MacBook air combo vs a beefed up 15 inch pro

Im in need of a new computer and I'm having trouble on deciding between getting a 27 nch iMac as my main comp and an air as my portable one, or a 15 inch pro with upgraded ram and high res monitor. Let me know what you think

Do you travel a lot with your computer ?
Do you like using it in more than one room ?
What software are you wanting to run ?

I have another variation

I use a 15" MBPro connected to a 27" Apple monitor for my base computer and an 11" MBAir for travel.

I do travel with my computer a lot, i am still a college student.

I am a freelance designer and web developer so i often run some pretty big programs at the same time (photoshop, flash, text editor, ftp client, several browser windows, etc). However, I always do this work at my desk (with use of my external monitor). Away from my desk is more just class/library work, or watching flix in bed before going to sleep.

If we all purchased what we wanted, we all would be broke. I always make myself look through the 'do i need it' window first.

That's true, if I bought what I wanted.. I'd be looking at 12 grand in MacPro.. before displays.
