How to get rid of red numbers on app icons?

I've searched all over and can't find any answers to this question - perhaps I don't know what to search for!

Is there a way to stop the red numbers from showing up on app icons?

I just downloaded the Dotti app, and it shows how many photos you have left in your roll of "film," which is super annoying. Any idea how to get rid of it? Btw, I have an iPhone 4 with iOS5.

Thanks, but I don't see how to turn them off in Notifications. There is nothing about that app in my Notifications settings, nor is the app listed just under Settings. What am I missing?

Ok, I see what you were saying before, so now I guess the question is: How do I get an app to show up in my Notification settings? It's just not there.
