Ok so Apple has replaced everything in my MacBook Pro (Logic Board twice) and the latest fix they replaced the RAM (for some odd reason). I have had Kernel Panics that all point to the graphics and at this point I do not feel my laptop is salvageable so I want Apple to just replace the laptop.

The last phone call I had with AppleCare the lady stated the only test I failed was memory, I believe this to be a lie but without the AST (Apple Service Toolkit) I cannot run the same MRI (Mac Resource Inspector) they initially used to test my particular issue (that is being referred to online as "The Black Screen of Death"). The first time I took it into the Apple store they ran this particular MRI and my laptop instantly failed, this proved that it was defective and Apple would repair it free even though it was out of warranty. With some further research I found that people with my same problem were 90% of the time only finding resolution when Apple finally replaced the computer so I want to get there as soon as possible and skip all these pointless steps they are running me through.

I know if I had the AST I could set it up with an OS X server and run the same test, I am almost positive that my laptop will fail this test again. When I go to the Apple store now they just decline running any tests on my laptop in front of me, they state that I am at a superior service level and Apple will not let them run tests on my machine, this just all seems like a big way to avoid getting caught in a lie because I would swear to my laptop failing this test if I could only get access to run it on my machine!

This is what I need:

AST: Apple Service Toolkit
Or
GSX login permission. I have the link to download the toolkit if I could log into GSX or get someone to do it for me.

Thank you and I hope I have not broken any forum rules with my first post, you couldn't believe what I've been going through to get my computer back in working shape!

This was my latest Kernel Panic, if you know how to read them then you will notice that it all points to the nVidia GPU and other graphic processing families.

I took my mid-2010 15" MBP into a Genius Bar after reading this technical service bulletin from Apple. They have a specific test for the mid-2010 MBP that identified the VSI system on my laptop as bad. According to my "Genius", this affects 15" MBPs built from April through June of 2010. The good news is I'm getting a replacement motherboard for free, even though my Applecare ran out 6 weeks ago. It is apparently covered for the first 3 years from purchase, but is at Apple's option thereafter. It is a $390 if you have to pay for it yourself. Unfortunately, they don't stock the motherboard so it has to go to an Apple depot to be fixed and will take from 3-5 days.

If you're experiencing intermittent kernel panics to read TS4088 and to take their laptop and a copy of the article to a Genius Bar so that it can be propertly identified and repaired. There is a test specifically for this model that can identify whether the video chip subsystem is at fault.
