G4 iBook failure

Hi people I have been advised by Dennis the moderator that the solder on the Video Chip that flakes with flexing and heat and is causing my G4 to fail. would anyone on here live in the Tonbridge area Kent that could help please contact me.

No doubt Dennis' diagnosis is correct. Grant sorry to say that is a job for a specialist and really the cost may be more than the machine is worth alas.

Hi, I had some success with iBook G3s in the past by placing a shim against the offending chip, actually I think I used a 2p piece.

With the G4 iBook the problem seems to lie with a different chip than with the G3, but the repair principles are the same; to put pressure on and push the dodgy solder connections back into place.

Although I am probably within reach of your whereabouts (as I live in Kent), I think you're probably best to investigate this site ibook G4 logic board fix and give it a go yourself. Rubber feet like they have used are available from Wilkinsons (I actually have some myself).
