I have two computers. An older MBP, and a regular Macbook. The MBP needs a new fan, new keyboard, and new battery so for now I'm just going to use the MB. I have all my music on my MBP but don't want to transfer everything to the MB. Is it possible to have the MBP and the MB connected via USB/FW 24/7 and use the MBP as an external hard drive?

Then yes, you can. Start up the mac you want to use as an external drive while holding down the "T" key on the keyboard. Then connect it to your computer through the firewire cable.

Target disk mode is still needed since the hard drive will require power, as well as the motherboard which will need power to link the firewire bus to the drives SATA bus
