Migrating photos

Hi all.

I'm trying to migrate several Gb of photos from Windows. I have them on an external drive in a directory structure which uses yyyy -> mth -> event name. I want to get them onto my new iMac so that all users can see them in iPhoto and I preserve the filing system into an album structure.
