Heyah Folks,

I've had my new spiffy iMac for about 4 months now and I love it.

However...

I'm a minimalist at heart and i feel the dock is to... cluttered/big.

I'd like to know if there is any way to change the "style" of the dock, meaning take it down to more of a windows 7 type toolbar rather than big icons. I know I can shrink them down and autohide it, but I'm looking for something more radical.

Like how windows has custom shells that you can use rather than the default explorer.exe, does mac have anything similar ?
(not looking to run KDE or anything, although that'd be an interesting option.)

Well, you know, one of the worst things you can do on a Mac forum is say, "like Windows does it". ;)

There are third party Dock "enhancers" but I always steer clear of such things. They can be buggy, and might not play nice with each other or with "native" applications.

I used a terminal command I got from MacWorld that simply puts an empty space on the dock. You can move that space around to seperate your icons into groups. Just makes it look a little more organized. Look at #4 in this article.

Five tips for customizing the Dock | Macworld

Then use this command to refresh the dock.

killall Dock

Hope you find something here that helps.
