Clam Shell Mode on new Macbook Pro's?

Just got the new Macbook Pro, 13" 2.8 processor i7 chip. Very happy with it, except that clam shell mode doesn't seem to be working? I always ran it on my 2008 model MB pro and it worked fine. I'm running my external monitor out of the thunderbolt port into a DVI converter.

Any ideas?
