Due diligence required - since I don't actually own a Mac Pro...
Key bit of info is that the X51xx series (woodcrest) and X53xx series (Clovertown) both use the LGA771 socket, and are the same generation (65 nm). Clovertowns are two Woodcrests on one chip.

Yes, that one will work.

Go ahead with the X5355's. They will work like a charm in your Mac Pro. Any of the 5355s will fill the bill but do try and get a matched pair, with the same serial numbers. There are plenty of sites on the web which will show you how to do it. The hardest part is finding the 8" long Torx driver to remove the heat sink screws. The 5355s are usually reasonably priced, the 3GHz 5365s impossible to get under about $600.00

Upgraded my Mac Pro 1.1 to a 2.66GHz Quad using X5355, and Geekbench scores increased by 92%. PM me if you need more information.

Thanks harry! i'll, Do you reason it will make my mac pro future proof for 1 or 2 years? :) or isn't it worth it, I'm in the UK and if i try hard i can get a matched pair for about £160 and i will probably get them fitted by a proper technician! thanks again:)
