• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

My Macbook never actually had imovie on it. I'm looking for a free alternative for imovie. Something that can do at least basic editing but is free.

What Mac, what OS ver? You may just need to do a restore to get iMovie back.

If you bought it new, it should have it. iLife came with every SnowLion install and Mac made.

throw your install or apps dvd in the drive and see if the software is there for restore.

cola56: on Mac-Forums you conveniently managed to omit mentioning that you don't have a Mac? Really??

So sorry, I don't know of any free video editing programs for PC. Indeed, I don't know of any PC video editing programs under $300 that don't suck. If your machine came with Windows Movie Maker, you could try that.

Gavino: either restore iMovie from your original restore DVD, or better yet buy the latest version from the Mac App Store for $15.

Denalapple: not sure what you mean by "laggy". As for the video you link to -- my gawd that was awful, some people should be banned from making videos -- if you're asking how to video-record your screen, you can use QuickTime X to do this (and there are many other programs that can do it) and he added the captions later (badly).
