My Mac used to let me know when I had 10 min of power but now it just shuts off. Any idea on how to put that warning back on? Thanks.

What's the condition of your battery? Download the free coconutBattery 2.7.2 to see what the overall condition of your battery is. Your battery may be diminishing too fast when it gets low in order for the 10 minute warning to be issued.

Well I thought it was the battery but it happened again. I tried to restart it with no luck. I plugged it back in and fired it up. I still have 58% battery left so I am totally confused not as to what the issue is.

Have you recalibrated the battery at all?

I have no idea how to recalibrate the battery. It is the second battery I have owned, from the Mac store. computer is over 3.5 yrs old I am concerned that it is not the battery now as both Coconut and the computer both indicatied that the battery was 58% full when it shut off this time. The times before I just assumed it was the battery. This has happened about 3-4 times now.

Happened again at 58% power, unplugged. Plugged in and it is working fine. Battery icon says service battery.

The battery may actually be bad. Why don't you try a new battery and if it does the same thing, return the battery for a refund. Or have them check it out at your local Apple store.

Hi,

Follow this link which explains things for you.
Apple Portables: Calibrating your computer's battery for best performance

What chscag says is probably right though, but if you are looking at potentially your third new battery in 3.5 years it might be that your charging regime needs adjusting to something more suited to Lithium which is in essence to recharge more regularly in smaller amounts rather than big, big recharges from the red-zone and beyond.

Thanks pendlewitch, I do big charges actually. Drain to close to nothing then recharge. I will adjust accordingly.

My ibook did that and it was the battery. It started not giving the warning then as time progressed, it shut down at a higher and higher percent.
